Making AccountEdge Backups

To create backups of your company file in AccountEdge Basic, AccountEdge Pro and AccountEdge Network Edition, while the company file is open

  • Select File > Back Up
  • Select Back up all data to create a backup of your company file, custom forms, letters, reports, etc. This process does back up documents you have attached to your file
  • Otherwise, select Backup Company File only to create a backup of just the company data file
  • Select Check Company File for errors to Verify the company file's integrity before creating a backup
  • Otherwise, select not to check for errors, if you've already Verified the company file
  • Select To a Disk to save the backup on your hard drive, a network drive, or some removable medium
  • Otherwise, select save the backup to your Dropbox account. See Backup to Dropbox for more details

When you save a backup to Dropbox, the name of the file is pre-defined with a format of
Backup MM-DD-YY [Filename].zip
where MM is the month, DD is the day and YY is the last 2 digits of the year. When you save a file to a disk, the default file name will follow this convention, but you have the opportunity to change the file name. As you can see, the name of the backup file includes the original company file name. As a result, the name of the backup file could be long. If the name of the backup file is too long, the Save button will become inactive; you will need to shorten the name in order to save the file.

Backup to Dropbox

Beginning with AccountEdge Pro 2012 for Canada, AccountEdge customers have the ability to save backups of their company files to their Dropbox account.

The selection for Dropbox is done in the Backup File procedure (File > Back up). There is a corresponding option to select Dropbox when Restoring a company file from a Backup (File > Restore > From Dropbox). You can also restore from a backup by clicking on the Company File Maintenance dropdown menu at the Welcome window.

Prior to saving a backup to Dropbox, you will need to have created your Dropbox account, and linked it to your company file. If you haven't already linked a Dropbox account to your company file, just follow the instructions displayed when you attempt to use the Dropbox folder to save the backup file. If you haven't created your free Dropbox account, you can do so by clicking here.

Company files backed-up to Dropbox will be saved in the /Apps/AccountEdge/Backups/ folder on your Dropbox account. The backups are saved with pre-defined names with a format of
Backup MM-DD-YY [Filename].zip
where MM is the month, DD is the day and YY is the last 2 digits of the year.
