Restoring a Backup
You can restore a backup of your company file in any version of the software, provided it’s on the same platform. For example, if you have a backup of an old Plus 12 file (Windows), and you want to restore that file in your current AcccountEdge 2010 version, open the Widgets file (or any other company file) in AccountEdge 2010. Select File --> Restore from the menu bar, and select your Plus 12 backup file to restore and click 'OPEN'. At the Restore window select the location that you would like to restore the file. Click the Save button. You will then get to the sign on window where you will be asked to enter the User ID and your password. If, when attempting to open the file, an upgrade is required, you will get a window asking if you would like to upgrade the file. You should click YES.
When you are finished restoring the file, you can upgrade it to AccountEdge 2010 format by running the AccountEdge Upgrade Assistant.
To Restore on the Mac platform, follow the same procedure as outlined above: open a current file or the sample company file (Widgets), and select File --> Restore, etc.
If the Backup was made with an AccountEdge version prior to 2010 (e.g., 2008 or 2009), the backup file will be in a Stuffit format, and will have a .sit extension. The 2010 version of AccountEdge will be unable to open this format. (AccountEdge 2010 creates archives in a .zip format.) In order to extract the company file from this archive, you will need to download and install the free Stuffit expander, which is available from http://www.stuffit.com.
Once the company file is extracted from the backup archive, you should upgrade the file. Launch the Upgrade Assistant, which is location in the AccountEdge 2010 folder of the Applications folder. Upgrade the company file, renaming the newly upgraded file as necessary, and placing it in the appropriate folder.
