Moving Company Files Across Platforms

Company files can be used across both platforms, Mac and Windows.

First, determine how you will physically move the files from one platform to the other. One way of handling it is by copying the files onto a Flash Drive or CD, then copying the files from the Flash Drive or CD onto the desktop of the other system. When doing this, make sure you check the file’s permissions.

To Check Permissions on the File

  • On Mac, click on the file on your desktop and go to File > Get Info. Under permissions, make sure it says read-write for all groups. You must have administrator rights on the computer to change file permissions.
  • On Windows, right-click on the copied file on your desktop and go to Properties. Under the General tab, make sure the ‘read only’ box is not checked.

You can also email the files from one system to the other.

Once the files are copied onto the desktop, run the upgrade assistant if necessary, which is found in your program folder.
