Dropbox API Changes

With the Dropbox API / folder structure change (released in January 2013), AccountEdge will no longer create an AccountEdge folder directly in the Dropbox folder, and will no longer access folders in the old structure. AccountEdge will now create its folder in the /Apps folder of your Dropbox account. The device folder(s) and the Backups folder will therefore be located in the Dropbox/Apps/AccountEdge/ folder of your Dropbox account.

AccountEdge 2011 will no longer be able to reference folders. See Details

AccountEdge Pro 2012 International requires an update to reference folders. See Details

AccountEdge Basic v1 will no longer be able to reference folders. See Details

If you have not already updated to the new file structure, you will receive the following error when you attempt to sync your AccountEdge 2011, Pro 2012, Pro 2013 and AccountEdge Basic v2 and v1 with Dropbox

Synchronization could not be completed.

An error occurred while synchronizing. Please try again.

If you continue to have this problem, please check your internet connection, firewall settings and that the Dropbox account is accessible.

To resolve the issue, you will need to be using either AccountEdge Pro 2012 or AccountEdge Pro 2013, or AccountEdge Basic v2. (Contact AccountEdge Customer Care at 800.322.6962 for upgrade information.)

  1. Have your AccountEdge Mobile, Rerun and Time Tracker users perform a final sync to Dropbox
  2. Open your Dropbox/AccountEdge folder by logging into the Dropbox web site
  3. Right-click (control-click) on the Backups folder and copy it to the Dropbox folder
  4. Inside each device folder in the Dropbox/AccountEdge folder, check for the existance of a folder named ThirdPartyChanges; if the folder exists copy it to the Dropbox folder (if there are several devices, you may need to rename the folders)
  5. In the AccountEdge Pro 2013, Pro 2012 or AccountEdge Basic v2 application, unlink AccountEdge from Dropbox (Setup > AccountEdge Mobile > Manage AccountEdge Mobile, Setup > Time Tracker > Manage Time Tracker or Setup > Rerun > Manage Rerun)
  6. Delete the Dropbox/AccountEdge folder (only after you've copied the Backups and ThirdPartyChanges folders)
  7. Relink AccountEdge Pro 2013, Pro 2012 or AccountEdge Basic v2 with Dropbox
  8. Create new Device(s) as required
  9. Sync AccountEdge with Dropbox
  10. On the Dropbox web page, copy the Backups folder from the Dropbox folder to the Dropbox/Apps/AccountEdge/ folder
  11. For each ThirdPartyChanges folder you may have copied, copy the folder back to the appropriate device folder, after the device folder has been created; if you renamed the folder to avoid duplicate names, restore the folder name after you've copied it back to the new device folder
  12. Sync AccountEdge to Dropbox again
You can continue to use your AccountEdge Pro 2013, AccountEdge Pro 2012 and AccountEdge Basic v2, and Dropbox account in an uninterrupted manner after this upgrade.

Note:

  1. Due to the Dropbox API folder change, when you wish to restore from a backup, you will need to copy the desired backup file from the Dropbox/Apps/AccountEdge/Backup/ folder to your computer Desktop, and restore from this backup file.
