Looking to future versions to put in the stuff the other guys don't have

Hi guys-

I love the ability to use a web-based app that syncs with AccountEdge. This is such a useful tool!

I have several clients in the entertainment business that need to track time in a more detailed way. There is only one reasonably priced web-based solution for this, and it's a product through ADP called Time & Attendance. What it has that nobody else has, including Time Tracker, is the ability to have more open fields to collect more data for each time entry.

For example, an editor is logging time for a movie trailer. It is for the job "Time Bomb", and they are working on spot "Don't try this at home", version #25. In Time Tracker they would only be able to indicate the job. For movie trailer companies, they have to bill specifically by spot & version including OT. These two additional fields can simply be open text boxes with labels "Spot" and "Version." They'd obviously have to be customizable for each client & industry (custom fields would work). It'd also be nice to be able to use the data in these fields in a filter (ie, show me all work by all editors, producers, etc. for the spot "Don't try this at home").

I'd imagine there are lots of types of companies that would love to be able to capture data in a more 3-D fashion like this. Sample time sheet attached FYI.

    Hi Jen,

Thanks for the great feedback, here and elsewhere.

Question for you - Adding customizable fields is not a huge issue, but what do we do with the data in those fields in AccountEdge desktop? If we sync the data in, where do we put it?

    Todd,

You'd have to have the fields in the desktop AE time sheets too. I know, Monkey Wrench. The data in those fields is necessary in order to bill the clients fully. One of my clients is actually hand writing out time on paper (really!!) in order to capture all of this information.

I know you'd have to have a big demand for further dimension in the time tracking function before making a fundamental change -- but you don't get what you don't ask for, so there you have it. ;)

How did I know that was going to be the answer .

But you are right, you don't get what you don't ask for....

Along these same lines, I am an attorney and several of my clients require me to identify each time entry according to certain standard industry codes (sometimes called ABA Task codes). The offerings for this capacity in billing programs for the Mac are very limited.

I am constantly looking for an accounting and billing program(s) that can accommodate this. I also think there is a large and growing number of small law firms that have switched to Mac for obvious reasons and from what I can tell from user groups we are all looking for a better solution.
