When exporting the summary trial balance report to Excel, I notice that credit amounts show up on the report as "123.45cr". Excel interprets this as text which is kind of annoying. I have tried customing report the report to show negative numbers in paranthesis in the company setup and report setup without success.

Any ideas???

Unfortunately that is how the report is designed. There is no way to change that. There are certain reports where negative figures will be displayed in parentheses, given that the correct preference is set, but on the Trial Balance Reports you will see a "cr" at the end of certain figures.

What I recommend you do is send feedback within your software found under the Help menu. That way it gets sent to the developers directly.

Yes it is very unfortunate for us to spend hours typing data into excel.

You can fix this in a few steps for each report you send to Excel .
    1. In Excel choose "Find" and click the replace tab/button (or whatever it is in your version of Excel). Find what: "cr" and Replace with: ")" (close parenthesis). Click Replace All
    2. Choose find & replace again and Find what: "$" and Replace with: "(" (open parenthesis). Replace All
