No payroll in trial version?

Hi,

I'm in Switzerland and am considering switching to Account Edge. I downloaded the trial version, and really like it, but don't see a command center for processing payroll?

I understand that AccountEdge won't provide the Swiss tax tables, but they are relatively straight forward so I can plug them in myself. If I were to buy the Pro version, would it have payroll processing capability? Is it relatively flexible so that I can use to to accommodate Swiss payroll? Is there a way that I can do a trial of the payroll module?

Thanks,

Miranda

    Hi Miranda:

If you're in Switzerland - I'm assuming that you downloaded the International version? This version does not include a payroll module, by design. We only offer payroll in markets where we can support payroll tax tables. In a version that's intended for many different countries, that's not possible.

    Hi Miranda,

As Michelle said the International version doesn't have a payroll module, and every other payroll module is specific for a particular country i.e. UK, US AU, Canada etc.

If the payroll tables are fairly straight forward, then there is no reason why you could not set these up as recurring transactions, so that it funnels all the relevant liabilities and expenses to the right places. I would suggest journal entries.

    Thanks

In regards to Salmaan's very helpful reply... could someone explain to a non-accountant why journal entries would be used for the recurring transactions?

    Tom,

Journal entries could be used for anything, but what comes to mind is depreciation of an asset. It would be something like a vehicle or office furniture that would lose value over time. Your accountant would tell you what accounts to use and how often to do the journal entry. Then, you can set it up as a recurring journal entry. Does that make sense?

    Hi Tom,

Just to expand on the information from Mike....

Essentially all transactions that get processes in AE are journal entries, and in simple terms could be viewed as the 'backend accounting', where each transaction is given a description..... For example in a sale you will be receiving money; What the journal entry determines is how that money is analysed. Therefore which revenue stream you would like the monies to be accounting in.

As Mike pointed out there are many reasons why you may wish to use the recurring journal feature, they are generally things which happen again and again. The journal entry screen is a manual way of entering in a transaction. The other screens (process payroll, sales, purchases etc) all create journal entries automatically according to the transactions.

Depreciation, Accruals, Adjustments can all be setup as recurring journal entries. What I was eluding to in my last post was that payroll could also be entered as a journal entry, in the International version of AccountEdge, by making it a recurring transaction you can use it again and again every month to process the same payroll, without having to remember which accounts need to be used for the analysis, or the amounts.

Let me know if you need further clarification.
